WHAT WE STAND FOR:
As a student press, we follow the policy and code of ethical conduct established by the Student Press Law Center (www.splc.org). In addition, we adhere to the following tenets of fair and accurate journalism:
Accountability: We believe that journalists should hold themselves accountable and recognize that reporting may cause harm or discomfort. To minimize harm, we will be eager to receive complaints about our work and to correct mistakes of fact quickly and prominently.
Seek truth and report it as fully as possible: The basic function of journalism and journalists is to inform readers about issues that affect them. In order to do this, The Commuter will strive to be honest and fair in gathering, reporting and interpreting information. We intend to hold the powerful accountable and give voice to the voiceless.
Act independently: We recognize that good ethical decisions require individual responsibility and collaborative efforts. We will strive to remain free of undue influence by those who would use their power or influence to censor the newspaper.
